For many of our VCHS athletes, life as a VCHS athlete is busy and is filled with balancing school, sports, hobbies and social life.  A student that embodies this view is senior baseball and soccer player, Jeremy Wager-Smith.

Jeremy Wager-Smith is a 3-year veteran of VCHS Men’s Soccer and a 4-year veteran of VCHS Men’s Baseball.  Wager-Smith has played baseball ever since he was 6 years old, and he just started playing soccer in an actual league when he was a sophomore.  Wager-Smith has been the captain for baseball for 2 years, and even though he was new to the sport, he has been the captain for soccer for the last 3 years.

“My favorite part of my high school career was my senior baseball season as a whole,” Wager-Smith said.

Jeremy Wager-Smith balances taking four AP classes while preparing for four AP exams.  Wager-Smith did not take the AP Government class this year, but plans to take the AP Gov exam, so he has been studying all year to prepare for that AP exam.

On the weekends, Wager-Smith may be seen enjoying fishing or preparing for the upcoming week.

“I think playing sports here has put me in situations and environments which have allowed me to grow and mature, an opportunity I think I would lack if I didn’t play sports,” Wager-Smith said.

Wager-Smith’s typical day changes depending on if he’s having a practice or game day and depending on which sport is in season.

Wager-Smith’s final season of sports is coming to a happy ending while their team is sporting a 10-0 league record and a 20-3 overall record which is one of their best records in years.  If you would like to see Wager-Smith and the Falcons play, check out the schedule below.

Wager-Smith is planning on going to UCSD next fall to study Human Biology.  He is currently trying to determine whether or not he will try to walk-on to their baseball team.
