Track and Field 1st in League

This has been a record-breaking season for the track and field team as the 15-member boys’ team went undefeated in league and holds the number one seed, while the girls’ team, with eight members, finished in fourth place. The teams started practicing towards the end of January at their “home” track, Al Patch Park, in Vacaville, and their first meet was Wednesday, February 21.

Many athletes have set personal bests during league meets while also snatching first place in the league for some of their events. Nico Villarreal, Jamir Jones, Kyle Ishaq, and Brendan LeGoullon currently hold first in seven different events for the boys’ team with both Villarreal and Jones setting personal bests to make that happen.

Christine Llave, Calli Moore and Maxie Harrington are first in a total of five events for the girls’ team, with Llave setting a personal record for the 400 meter. Junior Isadora Petrovsky also finished second in the 1kg discus event during the SDL finals.

“It was an extremely satisfying experience to place that high in league after working  hard this season to reach that goal,” Petrovsky said.

For the past several years, the track and field team has qualified for section playoffs, with some of their athletes, most recently Jamir Jones and Calli Moore, even qualifying to attend the state playoffs.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Premliminaries were on May 15 at Chavez High School in Stockton, with the section finals to follow on May 17.

“For all of my athletes who have sacrificed time with family and friends to train over the past four years, may they be suc-cessful in their quest for personal bests during sections. May their had work not go unnoticed.  I am hopeful that Jamir Jones and Dominic Villarreal will have the races of their career,”  Coach Shannon Bubar said.
