The Falcon varsity baseball team got off to a blazing start this season starting the year 2-1 with impressive victories against Esparto and Leroy Greene Academy. Since then they have plateaued slightly with a 6-6 record, and they are 1st in league.
“Throughout the year the team built more chemistry than we started with,” freshman Grayson Frische said. “We learned how to build off each other and improve as individuals along as a team.”
Juniors John Elliott and Bryce Pazdel are leading the team at the plate. John is first on the team with a .400 batting average and 12 RBI’s. Bryce is also in the top tier in batting average, and is the team leader in home runs (1) and tied for first with sophomore Steven Dingman for triples (1).
Freshman Teagan Gonzales and sophomore Thomas Lane lead the charge at the mound for the Falcons. Teagan has an earned run average (ERA) of 1.91 and has 1 save on the season. Thomas Lane is a close second with an ERA of 2.80 and 1 win.
“My favorite game was April 29 against Dixon High School,” sophomore Thomas Lane said. “I remember freshman pitcher Teagan Gonzales came in during the 4th inning and shut them down. He struck out 9 batters in 3 and 2/3 innings and we ended up winning 8-4.”
The Falcons’ overall are a great fielding team, amassing a fielding percentage of .962 which is above the national average. Many players do well in this category; some leaders are freshman shortstop Nico Meadows and senior outfielder Marcus Linton.
“The season has gone surprisingly well considering how young our team was, and with us not being able to get as many games as usual,” Thomas Lane said.
