Basketball is back and better than ever! Last year we were unable to have a basketball season due to Covid-19. Our men’s varsity basketball team is shaping up to be a strong and dominant team this year. The varsity team is led by coaches Mr. David Kuch and Mr. Rich Everhart.

Conditioning for men’s basketball started the week after camp, but the real season started on November 1. This means the varsity boys have been putting in tons of work since September. “We use pre-season as a time to develop to our best possible selves, by the time league comes. You could say we “tighten the bolts and screws,” or “knock the rust off,” junior Thomas Lane said.

Most of the boys on the team have been playing basketball for a long time. “I’ve been playing basketball since 5th grade,” junior Garrett Kuch said.

The team captain this year is senior Rohan Aujla. “I think it’s pretty cool being able to take charge of the team and work with all the guys. I don’t really get more pressure because I know all my teammates pretty well and I think they trust me enough to make good decisions,”  Rohan said.

The varsity team plays 19 games this year excluding postseason. There are 11 home games and 7 away games this year. There are two tournaments our team plays in, the first was the Clear Lake Tournament, then the Christmas Classic which is hosted by VCS.

Pre-season has been successful so far, with a loss in the first game, against Clear Lake, but wins against Lower Lake and Fort Bragg in the Clear Lake Tournament. Wins against Winters on December 6 (39 – 15) and John Adams Academy on December 9 (70-35) created lots of excitement among the home stand fans. Next games are also at home, beginning December 16.
